NEW SAW -WOOD BRAND CHANGES FACE OF TIMBER INDUSTRY
At the Interzum furniture trade fair in Köln on 13-16 May, Innofor Finland will launch a new brand of trademarked saw timber, which is expected to have a major impact on how consumers view the wood industry. Called Wisewood, the timber is sourced from FSC- certified non-clearcut forests of naturally occurring tree species, while also retaining some completely uncut areas.
"Innofor Ltd's Wisewood timber is a technically fine Finnish saw wood product, and at same time the most socially and environmentally progressive wood commercially available" notes Marcus Walsh, Chairman of Innofor. "Independent assessment has given us extremely favourable reviews1."
"Consumers and wood product manufacturers have huge power in the choices they make" continues Walsh. "Buying or producing a wood product made of Wisewood, whether a house, furniture, or wood ornament, is a direct way to ensure the landscape of the wood's origin has remained available for local people to use, for tourism, and for wildlife. Non- clearcut forests in N Europe also produce better quality saw timber, because trees grow straight and branchless for the first decades of their lives, leaving less knots."
Wisewood comes from private and municipal forests managed by Innofor Finland Ltd. "All our forest owner-suppliers are deeply committed both to sustainability and to growing quality timber for fine wood products" continues Walsh. "Innofor works with leading forest management scientists to continually improve both the economic return and reduce the ecological footprint of our operations. Our methods are modernising forest management to be more in tune with current needs. In this way we are also changing the way people look at the forest industry, as well as getting satisfied customers".
Currently large amounts of Wisewood are available only from Finnish tree species (Scots pine, Norway spruce, birch, aspen), but other tree species will be added as Innofor's management operations expand.
